Africa’s Start-ups and SMEs after AfCFTA: Rethink, Retool, Innovate, Digitalize and Transform

The SVAI and Uganda-based Human Capital International (HCI) have partnered on hosting the 4th edition of the Strategic Leaders’ Summit, an SME-focused engagement platform reaching thousands of emerging startups and SME entrepreneurs across the continent.

The 2022 Summit, which takes place on 23 February in person at the Sheraton Kampala hotel and also virtually (Zoom), focuses on rethinking start-ups and SMEs operations in Africa for a post-AfCFTA economic resilience – all aimed at fueling small businesses’ growth and competitiveness in the new economy.

To this end, the summit will explore three key opportunities that need to be exploited, in order to power the repositioning of small businesses and societies:

• Transforming MSME businesses: Reorienting digital transformation investments, particularly FINTECH initiatives, to drive sustained, long-term value for macro, medium and small sized businesses and beyond.
• Empowering stakeholders: Using technology to respond to the needs and priorities of a broader set of stakeholders, employees, consumers, communities, partners, governments, and the larger society.
• Changing systems: Creating new collaborations and shared value-creation models across ecosystems to address small businesses and communities’ challenges through new markets and enabled systemic change.
