This year, the Africa Shared Value Leadership Summit will be hosted alongside GSMA’s MWC Africa in October. Hosted in Rwanda, this collaboration will bring together technology, connectivity, access and creating Shared Value under one roof to deliberate on the future of Africa.

The GSMA (also known as Global System for Mobile Communications) is a global association of mobile organisations that works to unify its members to “discover, develop and deliver innovation foundational to positive business environments and societal change”.

For MWC Africa 2022, we were approached by the GSMA, and decided to join forces for our combined flagship events – MWC Africa and the Africa Shared Value Leadership Summit. With collaboration as a key tenant of creating Shared Value, and identifying strong strategic alignments in our respective organisations, we knew we this was an opportunity that we had to take up.

Its commitment to connectivity for good in order to reduce inequalities across the world by resolving societal challenges through technological innovation is evidenced in various initiatives and engagement platforms they curate across the world (namely, the MWC – Mobile World Congresses).

As the Shared Value Africa initiative, we believe in the power of the collective and as part of the part of the global Shared Value movement – we, also saw an opportunity in convening a combined platform to talk about the connectivity challenges in Africa and curating cross-sectoral leadership discussions to affect change in society while driving profitable organisations.

Africa needs to leapfrog into the future to accelerate and create economic recovery and growth.

This our view that can only be achieved through providing access for all and leaving no one behind. We all agree that technology, digital and connectivity can accelerate growth on our continent, but we need to provide profitable solutions that will create a sustainable future for all. Business need to intentionally and consciously, provide and create connectivity, technology, services and products that will meet the needs of the people and the planet and simultaneously create positive social and environmental impact that will benefit all. Creating profit with purpose.

For the SVAI, this will be the sixth installation of the Summit, once again hosted as a hybrid event on 25-26 October (MWC Africa will carry on until 27 October). With an intention of growing awareness of the importance of sustainability and demonstrating how leading businesses address the SDGs through Shared Value.
