Taking responsibility for our actions

It is time for the human race to change this negative impact and admit that the patriarchal world that we live in is not fostering prosperity for all. Equal opportunities should be afforded to all and not just a select few because of their gender and their perceived superiority.  The shift in thinking is massive but it needs to be encouraged as we can no longer continue to ignore the negative impact of inequality on the human race.

In an increasingly volatile world, humanity finds itself grappling with a multitude of pressing issues, from wars and political unrest to corruption, murder, human trafficking, gender-based violence, rape, inequality and many more challenges. The immense suffering endured by people every day is a sobering reminder of the consequences of our actions. These challenges arise from human actions impacting other humans, prompting contemplation about the future of our species.

Amidst such turmoil, it is natural to question whether the human race must face extinction in order to rectify the mess we have created. However, it is essential to remember that within humanity lies the potential for profound compassion, empathy, and positive change. Instead of resigning to despair, we can channel our collective efforts into addressing these issues, fostering understanding, and promoting peace.

One issue that we need to raise here is the impact of gender inequality. We need to look at the past and we need to take the learning and change the future. We can no longer ignore that women have a rightful and equal standing in society and the workplace. Women leaders are perceived as more collaborative, empathetic, and inclusive. They tend to emphasise teamwork, communication, and building consensus. In contrast, some studies suggest that men may be associated with more assertive and direct leadership styles.

In addition, research indicates that women leaders tend to adopt a more cautious and risk-averse approach to decision-making. They may prioritise the long-term impact of their choices and consider potential consequences carefully.

By acknowledging the harm, we have inflicted and taking responsibility for our actions, we can begin the journey towards healing and progress. Embracing tolerance, cooperation, and respect for one another’s dignity, we can forge a path to a better world for future generations.

The challenges we face may be daunting, but history has shown that humanity possesses remarkable resilience and adaptability. It is through unity and a shared commitment to creating a more just and compassionate world that we can find hope for a brighter future, one where suffering is alleviated, and the potential for positive change is realised.

In pursuit of fostering greater gender equality, the Shift Impact Africa Group is taking decisive action on August 18th at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange,  by launching the Gender Equality Implementation Guide for the private sector. We firmly believe that it is imperative to encourage, motivate, and influence private companies to accelerate their efforts in promoting gender equality within the workplace. By doing so, we aim to significantly reduce gender-based violence and create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.  Join us and let’s together pave the way for positive change and a brighter future for everyone.
