A 24-Hour Broadcast Event Uniting the World to Defend the Planet and Defeat Poverty

Have you heard about Global Citizen Live? An amazing 24-hour global broadcast across six continents taking place on 25 September to unite the world in defending the planet and defeating poverty.

Performances and live events will place in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America, with  Global Citizen Live broadcasting on ABC, ABC News Live, BBC, FX, iHeartRadio, Hulu, YouTube, Twitter, and more.

Global Citizen Live is part of Global Citizen’s overarching Recovery Plan for the World, a year-long campaign to help end COVID-19 by calling on governments, philanthropists, and the private sector for financial commitments to kickstart a global recovery. The campaign is powered by Global Citizens around the world taking action together with governments, corporations, and philanthropists to enact change to defeat poverty and defend the planet before it’s too late.

Global Citizen has received tremendous support for this campaign, with messages of support from Italy – the current G20 President, Belgium, the European Commission, Spain, Argentina, Singapore, Nigeria and South Africa to name a few.

Learning For All – The Road to One Million

Global Citizen Africa is also driving an advocacy campaign to resume learning for all as part of Global Citizen Live. At a national level, over 300 000 children dropped out of school in 2020 because of not having access to digital tools to go online and it is estimated that the impact of the additional drop outs this year will reduce South Africa’s GDP by $2.6 billion by 2032.

Global Citizen Africa is working with corporates and philanthropists to make new pledges to bridge the digital divide in South Africa through various commitments that will be announced as part of Global Citizen Live.

Through this initiative, Global Citizen Africa aims to impact one million lives in South Africa. The organisation has received commitments worth over R4 million from various companies towards this goal but is actively looking for more support from business.
